Personal Trainer Tier II

Lisa earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from West Chester University, and her personal training certifications from the World Instructor Training Schools and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She is certified in speed and agility training from the latter. Lisa also is Aquakinetics certified. Her diverse experience includes ballet, swimming, yoga, Pilates, boxing, running, and athletic conditioning.

With extreme passion for fitness, Lisa shares a multidisciplinary background with her training clients. She places emphasis on core engagement, full-body strengthening, and endurance training to improve functionality as well as athletic performance. She has successfully completed multiple marathons and enjoys training members for competitive events, whether their first 5K or an Ironman.

Lisa is one of the trainers for the Center’s Wellness Programs, including cancer, diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease. She specializes in post-rehabilitation training and working with special populations and seniors.

In 2012 I started doing archery and quickly fell in love with the sport. In 2013 during a regional championship, I felt immense pain in my shoulder blade. Initially, only while doing archery, but quickly progressed to almost constant pain.

After multiple years of trying everything – going to doctors, having tests, injections, physical therapy, medical messages, acupuncture and a total of 4 surgeries to repair tears and reattach my shoulder blade muscles. I was still in pain and my shoulder was not right.

I knew something needed to change. At 44 years old, I had lost function and strength in my arm that was affecting my everyday life. I started working with Personal Trainer, Lisa Timberlake. Progress was slow as my movement was limited, and we restricted workouts to my lower body.

Lisa was great! She was able to work around these limitations and structure the workout, depending on my current pain levels and capabilities, while keeping the workouts varied and fun.

There is still a noticeable lack of strength on my left side, and some arm movements don’t go as planned, but I can do things in the Center I never thought possible. I am back in the pool swimming, and have slowly started archery again. Also I have been watching what I eat and I have lost 60lbs in the last 18 months, and feel a lot healthier.

The progress so far has been tremendous. I am excited to see what I will accomplish next.
